There have been times in my life where I have been down and out…Or at least felt like I was out. Many times when life got so overwhelming that I would just want to give up and sleep the day away. As a matter of fact…I did. I slept a lot when I was caught up in the very high stress that comes with being a High school teenage boy.
Twenty-some years later, with a wife and two kids, a mortgage, bills, etc. (All in all, 10 x the responsibilities I had in High school) I look back and think…Man I had it easy! If I only knew what I now know, life would be so much different. But that is perception for you….PERCEPTION CREATES REALITY!
What is reality really? For me, reality is what IT IS and it has taken me a while to come to terms with that mentality. At times I perceived my reality to be hard when I was younger only to perceive that it really was easy and NOW it is harder. But boil it all down and it’s something so simple yet complex at the same time…It’s life! For Example: It has been told that when the Dalai Lama asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered “Man…Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present: the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”
The search for happiness really isn’t so much of a search as it is an personal acceptance. EVERY life will have it’s up’s and down’s because that’s what makes up LIFE!
Now…to have a successful life….takes something more! What you ask? Well… Let me tell you. It depends who you are, what you want to accomplish, and where you want to be (as a person not a place) when you die. The when, how, and why’s will take care of them selves over time. I was once told that to have a successful life “all you had to do is progress towards something you wanted each day, and the rest will fall into place” To me that helped answer the 3 questions. Who do I want to progress to be? What do I wan’t to progress towards? and Where do I need to show more progress in order to be where I want to be when I die? (Physically, spiritually, mentally, financially, etc).
I was distracted for many years comparing myself to others in every area: Physically, spiritually, mentally, financially, etc.It wasn’t till after many moments built up over time that led to my personal acknowledgement that today’s decisions make up tomorrow’s future. I needed to continually Increase my Ability in ALL areas so I was READY FOR WHAT LIFE HAD TO OFFER.
Your life is YOUR LIFE! The only one like it in the universe. Your life is a book and you are it’s author. Only you have the power to direct the story line. But remember…books are written and read one letter at a time from start to finish. And not all chapters are filled with happiness and excitement but those chapters make up critical plot twists, circumstances, etc that make it THE BEST BOOK IN THE UNIVERSE if it portrays a “successful life!”
To Your Success!
